New Member Commitment

Selection to the Academy of Educational Scholars (AES) at the University of Texas at San Antonio Long School of Medicine (LSOM) is both an honor and a commitment to advancing excellence in health professions education. Membership is awarded to individuals who will help fulfill the AES mission: to serve the LSOM and its faculty through honoring, fostering, and advancing biomedical teaching and excellence in educational scholarship.

The AES is an active and dedicated community of biomedical educational scholars, and membership carries the expectation of meaningful engagement in the Academy’s activities. Members’ roles, responsibilities, and benefits are further described in the LSOM AES Bylaws.

Induction into the AES signifies the following commitments:

  • Successfully complete the one-year AES Fellowship, demonstrating active engagement in the Academy’s professional development curriculum, scholarly activities, and collaborative learning opportunities.
  • Actively participate in the AES community by contributing time, expertise, and leadership to Academy initiatives, committees, educational programs, and events that support the educational mission of the AES and the Long School of Medicine.
  • Advance educational excellence and scholarship by contributing to faculty development, educational innovation, mentorship, and scholarly dissemination that strengthens teaching and learning across the institution.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and educational leadership, continually seeking opportunities to improve educational practice, share best practices, collaborate with colleagues, and promote a culture of excellence, innovation, and inclusion in medical education.

Becoming an AES Member

AES offers two pathways to membership: the Faculty Fellows Pathway and the Legacy Pathway. Each pathway provides eligible individuals with an opportunity to become part of the AES community.
