University Hospital (UHS)

University Hospital is leading teaching hospitals and South Texas and a Level I trauma center in the city of San Antonio. It’s 700 beds ensure the people of San Antonio, Bexar County and South Texas have access to high quality medical care. University Hospital with it’s partnership with UT Health San Antonio is committed to delivering patient-centered, culturally competent, high-quality and compassionate care, based on a strong foundation of outcomes‐based research and innovative teaching. It caters to a large patient variety within its various services including medical and surgical inpatient services, ICU (cardiothoracic, medical, surgical, neurological), Ob-gyn, pediatric and many others. Highlights of training in this setting include HIV and immunocompromised hosts, trauma and surgical/orthopedic conditions, endemic infections, transplants.

Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital

Affiliated with UT Health San Antonio, ALMMVH is one of two inpatient campuses of the South Texas Veterans Health Care System. It is a comprehensive 150 bed primary and tertiary care facility providing acute medical, surgical, emergency, primary care, urology, orthopedics, mental health services. The facility has a special focus on traumatic brain injuries/spinal cord injuries and rehabilitation, post-traumatic stress disorder, and services for women Veterans. Consults stem from common conditions in the Veteran population including diabetes related complications, bone and joint infections, malignancy and other immunosuppressive conditions predisposing to infectious complications. The consult team comprises of 1 ID attending and fellow with occasional trainees rotating at this site.

University Health Robert B. Green Campus

Located in downtown San Antonio this clinic is a multispecialty clinic offering various primary care and specialty outpatient service. The Family-Focused AIDS Clinical Treatment Services (FFACTS) which serves as a continuity clinic for 2nd year fellows and the OPAT (outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy)/ID clinic is located at this campus.

Texas Center for Infectious Disease (TCID)

TCID is the only specialty TB hospital in the United States and the regional leader in the treatment of tuberculosis and Hanse’s disease. Additionally, TCID hosts one of the four centers of excellence granted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Heartland National Tuberculosis Center. This site manages hard-to-treat TB cases including MDR and XDR TB with long-term hospitalization that are compounded with alcohol/substance abuse, diabetes, homelessness, HIV, psychiatric illness, and resistant forms of TB. Fellows rotate here during their 2nd year of fellowship.
