Noon Conference

Our noon conference is held every day of the week and serves as the foundation of our academic didactics. We currently hold a hybrid conference offered both in-person and virtually. The noon conference curriculum is comprised of:

  • Faculty Lectures: Both hospitalist and subspecialty faculty provide focused discussion on clinical topics, which are based on the ABIM blueprint curriculum and targeted towards strengthening core knowledge and clinical fundamentals.
  • Journal Club: Our PGY-2 residents dissect current literature and present to our residents and medical students. These presentations are often facilitated by faculty and provide a great opportunity for critical appraisal.
  • Morbidity and Mortality: Once per month, faculty and residents gather to discuss a clinical case in a protected environment. The purpose of the conference is to identify opportunities of improvement in regards to patient care and to foster a culture of transparency and discussion surrounding medical errors.

Collaborative Report

Once weekly, a collaborative report is held in place of noon conference. This lecture is run by varying wards teams currently on service in the hospital. These case-based discussions focus on expanding clinical reasoning and differential diagnosis formation for common inpatient presentations.

Wellness

We dedicate noon conference to our residents’ wellness once per month with activities including pet therapy, art exhibits, and meditation.

Board Review

Weekly sessions are held for PGY-2 and PGY-3 residents to prepare for the American Board of Internal Medicine Certification Exam. Sessions are moderated by a chief resident, where they review practice questions in a relaxed, open, and engaging environment.

Medicine Grand Rounds

The UT Health San Antonio Department of Medicine holds weekly Grand Rounds. Topics range across all sub-specialties and often distinguished lecturers from other health systems present their innovative work.

Conference Support

For the academic year 2023-2024 the Internal Medicine Program supported 55 residents to attend academic conferences – which included regional, national and international meetings!
