A summary: Tcf-1+ stem-like T cells are the key to understand CD8 response during chronic viral infection and tumor immunity. Here, we found that TGF-beta inhibits the differentiation of Tcf-1+ T cells via promoting their retention or residency inside lymphoid environment.
