Movement Disorder Fellowship Program

The Parkinson’s Disease and Movement Disorders Program at UT Health San Antonio offers a two-year non-ACGME fellowship training program in adult movement disorders. The first year will focus on primarily clinical skills and the second year will incorporate more time for research. The program is available as a one-year clinical fellowship, though completing a second year is recommended. One fellow will be selected each year.

The program offers specialized training in the broad field of movement disorders, including Parkinson’s disease and other parkinsonian disorders (progressive supranuclear palsy, multiple system atrophy, corticobasal syndrome, dementia with Lewy bodies, drug induced parkinsonism), tremor, dystonia, hemifacial spasm, Huntington’s disease, chorea, ballismus, ataxia, tics/Tourette’s syndrome, myoclonus, restless leg syndrome, tardive dyskinesia, spasticity, and functional movement disorders.

Fellows will also develop procedural expertise in botulinum toxin injections, management of intrathecal baclofen pumps, and Deep Brain Stimulators (DBS) for patients with movement disorders.   Trainees will have the opportunity to work on research projects at The Perry and Ruby Stevens Parkinson’s Disease Center of Excellence and The Glenn Biggs Institute for Alzheimer’s & Neurodegenerative Diseases.  In addition, the fellow will participate in an extensive educational curriculum including didactics, journal club, multidisciplinary DBS meetings, and video rounds.

Program Requirements: Completion of an ACGME-accredited Neurology residency program. Obtain a full, unrestricted Texas medical license. Openings are available for July 2024.
