Lily Espinoza Awarded American Heart Association Predoctoral Fellowship

Lily Espinoza, a student in the Neuroscience discipline of the Integrated Biomedical Sciences Ph.D. program, has been awarded an American Heart Association Predoctoral fellowship.

The American Heart Association predoctoral fellowship is a training grant which supports students on the path to a research career. According to the website, the mission of the fellowship is to “enhance the integrated research and clinical training of promising students who are matriculated in pre-doctoral or clinical health professional degree training programs and who intend careers as scientists, physician-scientists or other clinician-scientists, or related careers aimed at improving global cardiovascular health.”

The title of her grant proposal was “High Fat Diet-Induced Vagal Circuitry Plasticity: A Novel Mechanism of Cardiovascular Disease.” She is in the lab of Dr. Carie Boychuk.
