REDCap Survey and Data Management Tool

UT Health San Antonio, as a member of the CTSA community, offers REDCap – a self-managed, secure, web-based solution that is designed to support data collection strategies for research studies. This tool provides functionality and features enabling researchers to rapidly setup and manage their own databases and surveys for collecting and managing research data.  For those that wish to forego the REDCap setup and management, we offer a full range of technical, clinical, research, and operations staff to do that for you.

IDEAS

The Informatics Data Exchange and Acquisition System (IDEAS) system encompass a collection of software, hardware, policies, and procedures that drive PHS informatics. Under multiple layers of physical and logical security, IDEAS functions as an information broker facilitating data collection, analysis, and reporting. It integrates disparate data from multiple and geographically separate collection and treatment facilities to provide researchers with a coherent information palette.

TriNetX

TriNetX is the global health research network enabling healthcare organizations, biopharma and contract research organizations (CROs) to collaborate, enhance trial design, accelerate recruitment and bring new therapies to market faster.  It is most useful for identification of patient cohorts in preparation for research as it provides researchers the ability to explore a narrow set of patient data such as diagnosis, labs, procedures, medications, and demographic characteristics to generate simple aggregate counts. The TriNetX platform is most helpful in assessing study feasibility, i.e., whether we have enough patients to support a study.

Data Management and Sharing Plan

As of January 25, 2023, NIH funding applications generating scientific data will require a two-page Data Management and Sharing Plan. The CRI Clinical Research Informaticists are supporting implementation of the NIH Data Management and Sharing Policy at UTHSA by providing support for drafting the Data Management and Sharing Plans (DMSPs) and associated budgets and budget justification language for Investigators. For the initial implementation year, UTHSA, through support from the Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR) these consults are provided at no cost to the investigators. Email to request DMSP support. Contacting CRI a month or more before your application is due is not too early. Emailing within two weeks of submission is often too late to fully explore data sources, decide optimal methods, and select appropriate sharing repositories.
