Our Research

Our basic science researchers are currently engaged in a variety of projects which seek to explain mechanisms of ocular diseases and may lead to possible therapies for blinding disorders. Some of our clinical faculty are involved in treatment trials. Others are conducting investigations which might permit optimization of vision care resources. Our research efforts are supported by grants from the government, private industry and philanthropic foundations and through endowments provided by visionary benefactors.

Our Educational Programs

Our ACGME-accredited residency program has four residents in each of the three years of specialty training. We graduate ophthalmologists who are ethical, compassionate, competent, and well-prepared for fellowship or entry into comprehensive ophthalmology, in private practice or academic medicine. Our fellowship programs include a two-year ASOPRS-accredited Oculoplastics fellowship and a two-year AUPO-accredited Surgical Retina & Vitreous fellowship.

Our Patient Care

Every ophthalmic subspecialty is represented by at least one of our full-time ophthalmologists. We are the consultants for secondary and tertiary eye care for our community and the South Texas region.  Our clinicians are experienced, highly qualified experts in their fields. There is a state-of-the art Ambulatory Surgery Center at the MARC where a majority of our physicians operate.
