BMM Discipline Plan of Study

The course work taken by BMM students provides them with a balance of a background in the fundamental knowledge of biochemistry and biophysics; and an understanding of the methodologies involved. The required course on metabolism is designed to allow the student to gain an integrated understanding of the workings of a cell at the molecular level. The two-semester sequence, focused on macromolecules, combines reading from the literature with problem sets to provide the student with both theoretical and practical knowledge. The final required course focuses exclusively on the methods of molecular biology that are common in biochemical and biophysical research. The required course work is supplemented by electives that allow students to tailor the curriculum to their specific interests.
