NCI-T32 Eligibility and Application Information

Who is eligible to apply for this position on the training grant?

Predoctoral Trainees:

Graduate students in the Cancer Biology (CB) Discipline of the IBMS Graduate Program are eligible for support, provided they have passed the requisite qualifying examination, have been formally admitted to Ph.D. candidacy, and meet all other programmatic requirements (as outlined below). Exceptional candidates in other Disciplines of the IBMS that meet all of the above criteria may be considered for support if they are conducting research that is clearly cancer-‐focused and commit to completing the two Cancer Biology Core courses at the earliest possible dates.

Individuals who have been supported as pre-‐doctoral trainees by other extramural training mechanisms (including T32 training grants) for more than five years in aggregate, or who are current recipients of individual National Research Service Awards (NRSAs; F30, F31) are ineligible for support.

Postdoctoral Trainees:

Post-doctoral fellows must have a Ph.D., M.D., D.D.S., D.V.M., or PharmD. Post-doctoral fellows with dual M.D./Ph.D. or D.D.S./Ph.D. are also eligible for support provided they meet all other requirements (as outlined below) and the sponsoring faculty has an active and funded research program in basic, translational or clinical cancer research. Post‐doctoral fellows should be no further than 5 years from obtaining their doctorate and/or completion of relevant clinical training. All M.D. and D.D.S. candidates should be in a residency or fellowship program that emphasizes training in basic and/or translational cancer research to become physician‐scientists or dentist‐scientists respectively. M.D. candidates that are in residency programs that are combined with Ph.D. training in cancer research are also eligible for support as postdoctoral trainees.

  • Only U.S. citizens and U.S. permanent residents are eligible for support on this training grant.
  • Only those trainees whose mentors are currently approved by NCI as Participating Faculty in this T32 are eligible for support.
