Hospital Medicine Division Awards
Every year the Division of Hospital Medicine recognizes stellar performers for their dedication to patient care, research, medical education, as well as collegiality and collaboration.
Researchers of the Year
This award recognizes a faculty member with demonstrated commitment to the research mission, including scholarship in quality improvement, medical education-based research, and clinical research.

Robert Nathanson, MD, FACP “Dr. Nathanson does a remarkable job in the area of scholarship! It is truly impressive! It is also exciting to see him take on resident scholarly activity in his new position as Associate Program Director for the residency. I know his leadership in this space will be wonderful!”

Educators of the Year
This award recognizes a star teacher, educator, and mentor for our medical students and residents.

Sean Garcia, MD, FHM “Dr. Garcia has long been a favorite among residents and students. I recently let residents know that Dr. Garcia would be covering, and a resident exclaimed “I love Dr. Garcia!”. He is always kind and always models what an outstanding physician does for his or her patients. Dr. Garcia dedicates time each year to modules in the pre-clinical curriculum. With his various roles, Dr. Garcia impacts learners throughout medical school, residency, as well as in our Hospital Medicine fellowship, and further serves as an educator to his colleagues through his presence as a role model for all. We all benefit from having Dr. Garcia as a colleague, and I’m thankful for the opportunity to work with him!”

Clinician of the Year
This award recognizes a stellar clinician who exemplifies superlative patient care.

Holly Day, MD “Dr. Day does a lot of procedures with the procedure team and staffing the teams. She is very thorough with her communication with the APPs, is a caring and compassionate person.”
Physician of the Year
This award recognizes a physician who exemplifies teamwork and collaboration on direct care teams.

Andrew Gonzalez, MD, MPH “Dr. Gonzalez is very nice to work with. He is very approachable, flexible, and knowledgeable. I look forward to working with him because I know that we will have a good week!”
Triple Threat Award
This award recognizes a faculty member with excellence in all 3 core mission areas of medical education, patient care, and research.

Ankur Segon, MD, MPH, MEd, FACP, SFHM “Dr. Segon deserves this award. Over the last several years, he has done an excellence job in all three fields. But this year especially, he published several research articles. He promoted medical education across several layers of learners, and provided excellence patient care which was reflected in his Quality Improvement performances.”

Division Excellence Award
This award celebrates an APP or physician colleague who exemplifies collaboration, teamwork, and collegiality within the division.
