Naomi Sayre, PhD, Awarded R01 Grant from National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke

The Department of Neurosurgery is proud to announce that Naomi Sayre, PhD, has been awarded an R01 grant from the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke for her research project, entitled: “LRP1 as a novel regulator of CXCR4 in adult neural stem cells and post-stroke response.”

Over the next five years, this 1.2 million dollar award will enable Dr. Sayre to study one way that neural stem cells are protective after stroke. Given that stroke is the leading cause of long-term disability, the hope is that these studies will lead to a better understanding of processes that enable us to improve treatment for patients who have suffered a stroke.
