Program Faculty Training Resources

The faculty preceptors in our program are engaged as either the Principal or Co-Investigator of numerous research projects that are federally funded, i.e., by the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, or the Veterans Administration. A number of industry-sponsored investigations are also underway. (Total grant support for all participating faculty is $25,681,316 with average grant support per participating faculty being $1,034,453.)

CAREER DEVELOPMENT OPPORTUNITIES OFFERED BY THE PROGRAM.

Integral components of trainee preparation for careers in science are knowledge, adequate preparation, and the acquisition of skills to facilitate a transition. This program emphasizes the role of the program faculty and leadership in guiding the trainee towards excellence in science. Programmatic requirements in scientific presentation, writing, grantsmanship, and responsible conduct complement the acquisition of research knowledge and skills. In addition, our trainees are encouraged to take advantage of on-going institutional activities that add value to the training of early career scientists. This includes diverse workshops and conferences focused on grant writing, mentoring, CV preparation, and networking. These programs are continuously offered through the coordinated efforts of this training program, and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and the Office of Career Development at UTHSCSA.
