Breast Imaging and Intervention Clinical Fellowship

The UT Health San Antonio Breast Imaging and Intervention Clinical Fellowship is a one-year advanced training program designed to prepare radiologists for independent practice in the full spectrum of breast imaging and image-guided intervention. Based within the Department of Radiology, fellows gain comprehensive experience in screening and diagnostic mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and contrast enhanced mammography and automated breast ultrasound. Fellowship training includes a broad range of interventional procedures, including lesion localization, image-guided core biopsy, fine needle aspiration, and cyst aspiration. Training occurs in a multidisciplinary academic environment that emphasizes patient-centered care, collaboration with breast surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, and participation in established breast cancer screening and diagnostic programs. The fellowship is led by fellowship-trained breast imaging faculty and provides exposure to advanced technologies and evolving clinical                                                               practices in breast health.

Consistent with the educational principles outlined by the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI), the fellowship combines clinical training with development of noninterpretive, collaborative, and scholarly skills required of modern breast imagers. Fellows refine their expertise in breast cancer detection, diagnosis, management recommendations, quality assurance, and patient communication while participating in multidisciplinary conferences, teaching activities, and scholarly endeavors. The curriculum is designed to develop confident, well-rounded breast imaging specialists who are prepared to serve as leaders in academic or community practice and to deliver high-quality, evidence-based breast care across diverse patient populations.
