Breast and Women’s Imaging and Intervention Fellowship

The UT Health San Antonio Breast and Women’s Imaging and Intervention Fellowship is a one-year, multidisciplinary fellowship designed to provide advanced training in breast imaging, breast intervention, and female pelvic imaging. Fellows spend six months dedicated to breast imaging and intervention and six months focused on women’s imaging, gaining comprehensive experience in the evaluation and management of diseases affecting women across multiple imaging modalities. During the breast imaging component, fellows receive extensive training in screening and diagnostic mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and image-guided procedures, including lesion localization, core needle biopsy, fine needle aspiration, and cyst aspiration. Training occurs within an academic medical center committed to providing comprehensive breast care through collaboration with surgeons, medical oncologists, pathologists, and other specialists.

The fellowship curriculum is aligned with the educational principles established by the Society of Breast Imaging (SBI), emphasizing excellence in clinical interpretation, procedural competency, patient-centered communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, quality improvement, and scholarly development. Fellows develop expertise in evidence-based breast cancer screening, diagnosis, and intervention while participating in multidisciplinary conferences, educational conferences, research, and teaching activities. The women’s imaging experience broadens fellows’ knowledge of female pelvic imaging and related disease processes, preparing graduates to become highly skilled, well-rounded imagers capable of delivering comprehensive care for women in academic or community practice settings.
