1. Why should I study at UT Health San Antonio?

UT Health San Antonio was established in 1972 and houses five different schools – graduate, medical, dental, nursing and health professions. The graduate school runs 18 different programs and is fully accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award certificates and baccalaureate, master’s, doctoral, and professional degrees. Faculty are involved in translational and clinical research using state-of-the-art equipment and also participate in outreach activities, offering extensive clinical and research opportunities. Overall, you will be trained in a professional environment and have access to research and clinical volunteering opportunities.

2.  What are the benefits of enrolling in the  program?

In addition to taking courses taught during the pre-clinical years of medical school by our experienced faculty and help with preparation for MCAT (Kaplan), personalized academic advising will be provided. This will include professional mentoring, guidance and information for volunteering, lectures and counseling on career guidance, professional school selection advice, resume preparation and essay writing assistance, workshops on application to schools and on enhancing learning skills, mock interviews, a composite letter of evaluation and seminars given by basic science faculty and physicians discussing their specialties. Other benefits include being part of a small class size (between 5 to 20 students) for dedicated attention and proximity to research labs and several health care institutions to facilitate volunteering opportunities.

3. Will the program prepare me for a career other than medical school?

While the focus of the program is to prepare most students for admission to medical school, completion of core courses in the curriculum will lay the foundation for admission to other health professional schools. Workshops/seminars on alternate career pathways in the health professions will also be held.

4. What is the duration of the program?

This duration of the program is approximately a year,  beginning  in the first week of July.
