Welcome to the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes

At the Department of Pediatrics, our Division of Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes is committed to excellence in patient care, education, and clinical research. We provide compassionate, expert care to children and adolescents with a wide range of endocrine and metabolic disorders.

Our patients are seen at University Hospital and the Texas Diabetes Institute, both part of the University Health System. We are proud to serve a diverse population across South Texas—from Austin to Brownsville, and Del Rio to Victoria—reaching over 1.5 million children.

Our board-certified pediatric endocrinologists bring a wealth of experience and expertise, with special focus areas including type 2 diabetes, childhood obesity, and related complications. In addition to clinical care, we are actively involved in research aimed at advancing treatments and understanding of pediatric endocrine diseases.

We are also dedicated to education, training the next generation of healthcare providers—including medical students, pediatric residents, and fellows in pediatric endocrinology.

“The why behind what you do is that spark in you that hurts when they hurt, and rejoices when they get out of the hospital. And if you keep that spark burning in your heart long after you’ve left us, you’re going to be an amazing physician.”
