Clinical Services

Inpatient Wards

  • Our teams care for hospitalized children at University Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital in the Acute Care Unit (ACU) and Intermediate Care Unit (PIMU/IMC), a step-down unit from the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and helps provide care to high-acuity patients.
  • UHS is a level I trauma center, burn center, and a liver and renal transplant center, and the general pediatric teams assist in co-managing these patients with surgical and medical subspecialists.
  • Our team helps care for patients requiring intensive inpatient rehabilitation. The Pediatric Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit (PIRU) allows patients to regain strength and skills through intensive therapies while they remain admitted completing their medical treatment.

Newborn Nursery

  • The Women’s and Children’s Hospital is recognized as a Level IV NICU and Level IV Maternity Center, providing excellent support for mothers and babies.
  • University Hospital is recognized as a Baby-Friendly facility which demonstrates the institution’s commitment to babies, mothers, and families. Hospitalists work as part of an interdisciplinary team to promote evidence-based best practices and help babies and families thrive.

Pediatric Procedure Services

  • Pediatric Procedure Services helps provide a dedicated space with specially trained nursing staff to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for children.
  • Pediatric hospitalists perform anxiolysis and moderate sedation for children undergoing painful or prolonged procedures. Hospitalists undergo specialty training and participate in simulation events to safely manage emergencies and appropriately resuscitate patients.
  • We have been designated as a Center of Excellence by the Society for Pediatric Sedation.

Our team of hospitalists provides full-service care for children and newborns in the Acute Care Unit, Intermediate Care Unit, Newborn Nursery, and Pediatric Procedure Services at University Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
