Texas-wide Forensic Didactics
Prior to 2023, there was only one fellowship program in the state of Texas. In 2023, the Texas Legislature along with the direction of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) proposed a grant to create new forensic psychiatry fellowship programs. Over the next two years the various residency programs applied to the grant and build a forensic psychiatry program at their institutions.
Along with the grant was a mandate to collaborate amongst the various new programs. The collaborative resulted in the formation of Texas-wide Forensic Didactics where the aim is to create a fundamental didactic series across the state to provide equal learning opportunities to all programs in Texas.
These lectures are virtual and held every Friday morning. The didactic series will also cover landmark cases and will have case rounds and mock trials where fellows from different programs will rotate on their requirements to present at these conferences. In addition we will hold a mock trial in-person in collaboration with other programs to provide a robust experience in preparing the fellow to become a forensic psychiatrist.
