Welcome

The Division of Neonatology provides essential medical services to premature and critically ill infants from throughout South Texas. Simultaneously, we advance the field of neonatal-perinatal medicine through our dedication to research and education. Our highly experienced team of neonatologists and advanced practice providers provide life-saving care in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at University Health Women’s and Children’s Hospital where we manage a comprehensive variety of complex medical conditions including respiratory distress, infections, and congenital anomalies.

As part of the UTHealth/University Hospital system, the division is heavily involved in training medical students, advanced practice providers, residents, and fellows, offering them hands-on experience in a supervised environment. Research within the division focuses on predicting and improving outcomes for vulnerable newborns, exploring areas such as neonatal nutrition, neurodevelopment, and innovations in cardiac and respiratory care. Our commitment to patient care, education, and research ensures that the latest scientific discoveries are quickly translated into improved care for our most fragile patients.

Fellowship

The Neonatology fellowship program offers advanced training for physicians specializing in the care of critically ill newborns. Our graduates acquire skills necessary to practice as both clinical and academic neonatologists. A combination of extensive critical care experience and laboratory research experience fosters development as physician-scientists, preparing graduates to become leaders in both neonatal care and research.
