Resident Life

San Antonio offers affordable, safe housing options for residents in close proximity to the medical center, a wide variety of employment opportunities for families, and outstanding public, charter, and private schools. With over 300 sunny days each year, and mild “winters”, getting outdoors for recreation and wellness is a year-round option for our residents. Whether they enjoy hiking, biking, museums, theme parks, movies, shopping, dining, or just tubing on the river…this city has got them covered!

In addition to the active Wellness Program through our GME office at UT Health San Antonio, we also have a program level resident directed wellness program. Our resident-led scheduled wellness activities are built into our residents’ protected didactic time quarterly, and include a variety of activities such as karaoke, card games, holiday crafts, meditation and mindfulness, yoga, and painting. Our annual resident/faculty wellness event offers fun and camaraderie amongst our residents and faculty.

Each year our residents attend an off-site overnight resident retreat while faculty cover the patient care and rounds, and each class has an annual class dinner! It is a great opportunity for our residents to get away together, renew, and identify areas for the program to focus on that year.

Residents are also supported and encouraged to attend regular health checkups and personal appointments to stay healthy. The GME office offers confidential academic success coaches and counseling services for our residents that can be accessed virtually and with flexibility to work with resident schedules!
