Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Fellowship
Our fellowship program in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology was accredited in 2008 and accepts one or two fellows per year. The majority of the clinical portion of the fellowship takes place in the Women and Children’s Hospital at University Hospital, part of the University Heath System in the San Antonio medical center. Stem Cell Transplant experience is provided at the Texas Transplant Institute, Methodist Children’s Hospital, our partner in fellowship training. Research opportunities are available both at UHS in clinical hematology and oncology and also in laboratory, translational and epidemiology research at the Greehey Childrens Cancer Research Institute.
The Fellowship is graciously supported by the Greehey Pediatric Fellowship in Hematology Oncology Endowment which was created in 2007 by the generous donation of $1,000,000 by Mr. William E. Greehey to support physicians completing training in pediatrics and choosing to pursue sub-specialty training in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology. The Endowment provides financial support for education and research activities of the fellowship program.
In March 2026, Harvey E. Najim generously donated $6.5 Million to UTHealth to establish the Pediatric Scholars Program. The Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship program is one of the designated programs to receive part of this gift which will offer an annual scholarship of $25,000 to eligible fellows who match into the program and have a specific interest in the patient population served in South Texas.
